Welcome!

This is a blog that we use to post news on our translation of "Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love". For those who don't know, it is a sequel to Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland. Rupeeland was released in English, but Balloon Trip of Love wasn't.

This is an unofficial fan project. We are in no way affiliated with Nintendo or Vanpool, and are doing this completely for free.

Version 1.1 Released!

As promised, v1.1 of the translation patch is now available! Besides the issues I've outlined here, a slight aesthetic issue with the font has also been fixed.

Also, as I said yesterday, the patch is now only compatible with the 100% correctly dumped ROM. If your ROM is not a complete dump, there is a patch included that will fix it. See the readme for more details.

  14. Firstly, many thanks to the team for completing this project. This one was one of my 'holy grail' translations along Chibi Robo DS2... now only Giftpia and Captain Rainbow remain in that list ;)

Anyway, it took me almost 30 hours to 100%, here's some notes I took of issues I found:
    1. book 1: show miracle cure after giving it to grandpas (dont take the paper note)
    2. book 1: show hammer/toolbox key after giving it to grandpas (rainbow in sky)
    3. In the city (chapter 12), buy the first item from the stand. The text afterwards is in Japanese.
    4. Show the King miracle medicine (chapter 13) -> sentence cuts off
    5. Chapter 13: after completing the spoiler dude's questionnaire, there's a sentence in japanese
    6. Give moss ball to Azusa (in train station chapter)

    Hope it helps.

  17. Really loving this so far, ran into a few untranslated moments like later on in Azusa's hearts and when you try to show the grandparents the hammer after you cure them of their illness.

  19. Found a rather insignificant typo but it was the only one I noticed in the entire game. During the cutscene after you rescue Kakashi in the Liar cave Lion says "Kakashi's is safe". The correct grammar should either be "Kakashi's safe" or "Kakashi is safe"

  20. I'm so so happy to finally be playing this game! It's better than I ever imagined!

There are some typos here and there but I haven't been making note of them really, just enjoying playing...

I ran into a couple Japanese text boxes that probably don't matter at all:
    1. On page 2 thereafter, after turning off Captain Rainbow early and clicking the TV again, the ladybug said something in Japanese
    2. On page 1 thereafter, I used items on my dad after waking him up and the response was in Japanese

Also, some reaction text boxes during Love Push are too horizontally long, and the right side of the text stays on screen. Doesn't really matter, but line breaks could fix it.

  21. I just finished up the last secrets and watched all possible endings of the game, I really enjoyed your translation, thank you very much.

I have a question about the last statement of the spoiler hermit though. (SPOILER!)
"Once you finish his quiz he says "My advice is to return to your own "present time"."
    What is he referring to?
I figured the ending would be different now if I choose to leave the world at the end of the game but I still got the same ending.

Am I missing out on something?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If I'm not mistaken, "Return to your present time" is the standard line he says when the player has exhausted all of his hints for the current main storyline quest, telling the player to return to the latest page and continue there. It's not specific to post-game content, just a thing he says when he has nothing left to say.

By the way, I've watched some of your playthrough on YouTube when you started doing them. It's so nice to see people having fun with this weird, weird game. Ich will die restlichen Folgen auch noch schauen! Danke fürs Zocken :)

  23. Hello, I've really been enjoying this game! It's been so long since a game has made me laugh out loud in real life and made me feel so much joy. I can't thank you enough for the effort the translation team put into translating this game, especially when it's packed with so much dialogue. I've never really been a huge fan of Tingle (in fact I kind of disliked him), but after playing this game, I've come to appreciate him way more as a character.

I'm currently playing Version 1.1 and have just recently reached Page 10 in the story. I've been doing my best to do as many possible interactions with people and objects. I've noticed a few errors and typos that I've been documenting in case you would like to fix them in a future patch.

    Page 7, Chapter 3
    - The new chapter sprite has many stray unintended pixels in the lower-right. There seems to be 2 versions of this, 1st version that's used for the first time this chapter is reached, and a 2nd version for balloon return trips.
    - If you speak to the Mushroom Lady, her dialogue ends early and does not mention the Energy Eel. It says, "I have to make my husband eat the "
    - The tutorial cartridge used in DunJon. There is a pink bar above the cartridge that should state the difficulty level. However, there is instead untranslated text that says "otameshi" in Japanese.
    - If you show Lion the Gas Apple Seeds after Iona and the Land Owner finish fighting, Lion's 2nd text box is incomplete. It says, "If only I had gotten to the see "
    - After Auntie Florist appears, talking to Lion will make Lion's voice sound like Buriki's voice. However, I think this is an error with the original Japanese game so it can't be easily fixed.

    Page 6, World Thereafter
    - If you speak to the Fruit Seller, she says "You friends sure can eat a lot!" It should be "Your friends sure can eat a lot!"

    Page 8, Chapter 2
    - If you examine the Gas Apple Plant after flipping it over, it incorrectly states that it was Lion who was flung and lost consciousness.
    - "it's Gas Apple's ram attack!" should have the first word capitalized since it's the beginning of a new sentence.

    Page 5, World Thereafter
    - Azusa has a line of untranslated dialogue for showing her a present with 2 O's and 1 X.

    Page 10, Chapter 1
    - If you use Buriki's Analyze on Loveya, she says "Clothing shows an distinct angel motif." It should be "Clothing show a distinct angel motif."
    - One of the robots says "You safety is my number one concern." It should be "Your safety is my number one concern."
    - If you use Lion's Request on the seagull, Lion says "is says" instead of his typical "it says."

    Miscellaneous
    - Bits of white pixels on the top screen will get stuck when examining the different stickers in the Secret Notebook. Perhaps this is unavoidable with the game's current programming.
    - There was one instance where the word "were" was used instead of "where," but I didn’t properly document when this occurred. It was early on in the game.

If I come across any other errors as I progress, I'll let you know.

  25. Specifically for waldrumpus's guide on GameFAQ's:

The wording seems to imply that there's luck involved in obtaining the Energy Eel. However, I believe it's a scripted encounter to always catch it on the first try in front of the seed shop. Even if you attempt to save-scum, it's always the Energy Eel. Afterwards, you'll be able to catch other potential fish from the seed shop area.

Furthermore, you talk about fishing in the secrets section of your guide. You imply that the color of bait has an effect for catching the fish in Vegetable Village, but the bait doesn't change the fish you'll encounter. It's just dependent on the area. The Fishing Man says that bait just affects how easy it is to catch fish, and Buriki makes a comment how 4 species of fish are available when you analyze a specific pond.

These fish are true for Page 6, but it's possible that these fish will change for Page 7 or Page 8 of Vegetable Village.

  26. Apologies for posting this in so many parts. I am not sure how to edit a post. But I actually made a typo myself. Anyways, Buriki should say, in Chapter 10, "Clothing shows a distinct angel motif."

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just reached Page 11 and encountered some more typos.

    Page 10
    - Hobo at the West Side says "The salty wind stings they eyes." It should be "the eyes."

    Page 8, World Thereafter
    - After finishing Azusa's Level 2 Love Push, she'll say "It's and old and dangerous place." It should be "It's an old and dangerous place."

    Page 10, Chapter 2
    - At the Footbridge, an old lady with purple hair (Crashed-Into Lady) crashes into Tingle. Lion will say, "H-hey, Tingle! They key you were about to pick up..." It should be "The key"
    - During the Love Push with Crashed-Into Lady: If you give her an item worth 2 O's and 1 X, a small bit of text will get stuck on Tingle's head for the rest of the Love Push session. This is because the text is too horizontally long, I think.
    - After Gleeo gives Tingle an Employment Proof, Gleeo will say "Hey, straw boy. Come over here " There's a lack of a period, and the empty space makes the clown continue to talk even when the sentence is over (if you don't click though the text).

    Page 10, Chapter 3
    - Guardswoman says "What are you going? We gotta chase him!" It should be "Where are you going?" And maybe she should also say "You gotta chase him!" instead of saying "We" since she's not actually participating in the chasing.

    Page 10, World Thereafter
    - Select Eagle's dialogue option "Want to find work?" Say yes to the yes/no prompt. If you select "Want to find work?" again, his dialogue will be cut off. He will say, "For now I will be hoping your busi"
    - While looking for business cards for Eagle, the leftmost Orbital Industries worker on the East Side will say, "One of the other has one, I think." It should be, "others"

    Page 11
    - Buriki's Analysis on the Roaming Water, she says "This create carries a plant inside of it." It should be "creature"
    - Buriki's Analysis on the Walking Dad is untranslated. きょだいな オス ミライ。 パワーは おそらく ライオンと ほぼ どうとう。 こちらが なにかを しかれるのを まちかまえている もよう。

    Miscellaneous
    - Not sure if this is intentional. Every category of Love Push item has a descriptor. (Pretty, Cool, Mature, etc.) Specifically in Loveya's shop, the Rarity category is mislabeled. It's called "Rarity." with a period. This period shows up on the items' Rarity descriptor, but only in Loveya's shop.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Page 11, Chapter 2
    - The Desert Man who rents you a large goat. He says "As fore the fare..." It should be "As for the fare..." This same man will use singular "Demon Coin" instead of plural "Demon Coins" if you say no to his 2nd prompt and talk to him again.

    Page 11, Chapter 3
    - The Orbital Industries worker in the fire room will say "But an upside down prayer... what's that?" Since "upside down" is being used as an adjective, it should be "upside-down"
    - After you Love Push Lia, when you talk to the Village Elder, he'll say "I want you to bring me one of the nose goats," If you are not skipping through the text, his speech blips continue on for some time after the dialogue should have ended.
    - After you rescue Kakashi, Lion will say "Kakashi's is safe." The grammar needs to be fixed.
    - There is a specific line that has Lion's voice blips. なぜ おれたちの もくてきを しっる!At the same time, Segale's mouth is not moving at all, which implies that the voice is coming from Lion. In the translation, however, it says "How do I know about your journey, you ask?" which implies that Segale is saying it. It should be rephrased so that it's clearly coming from Lion. Something like "How do you know about our journey?" In the context of the scene, it should be Lion who's saying it, so it's not an error with the original Japanese version.

    - When you first arrive to this page, the chapter title picture calls Chapter 1 "Emerarera City," which is the Japanese romanization. However, it should be "Emerald City" which is this translation's choice for the city name.
    - At the Courtyard is a Frog-Faced Man selling merchandise. If you examine him, the game says "His is watching his customers closely." The grammar needs to be fixed.
    - The Frog-Faced Man who sells you 3 items: 1st dialogue selling a Red Marble, 2nd dialogue selling a Red Worm Bait, and 3rd dialogue selling a Soleless Shoe. The 1st dialogue is translated. However, the 2nd and 3rd dialogues are untranslated.
Second dialogue: さあさあ こんどは ちかせかい から やってきた・・・ ちのいろに そまった げきヤバ クリーチャーだよ。ええい もってけ! 198ルピー!
Third dialogue:
After purchasing the Soleless Shoe: けっして たごんは むようですぜ・・・。
    - Buriki's Analysis on Iona's Mother has Buriki incorrectly say "I come from Vegetable Village. We've met before." It should be more along the lines of "She comes from Vegetable Village. We've met before."
    - During the Love Push with the Bartender: If you give her an item worth 2 O's and 1 X, a small bit of text will get temporarily stuck on the right side of the screen. I think it's because the text is too horizontally long. The small bit of text will get unstuck with the next Love Push item. Also, since the text is too horizontally long, the ending of the statement gets cut off, since the statement is missing a period and the symbol that lets the player know to click to proceed to the next screen.

    Page 12, Chapter 2
    - If you talk to the Education Advisor in the bar and say no to her request, Lion will say "Don't be studpid. This is our chance!" "studpid" is a typo.

    Page 9, The World Thereafter
    - At Page 12, Chapter 3, you're required to travel to Page 9's The World Thereafter to collect a Detox Herb. If you show the Herb Gatherer a Detox Herb, he says "I'm a herb gatherer!" While this is correct for British English, it's incorrect for American English (where the "h" sound is supposed to be ignored). Furthermore, the Herb Gatherer will say "Hm? This paper describes a herb..." if you show him the Ingredient Note 1 after receiving the Detox Herb. While this would be fine in and of itself, this contradicts how the item description for Detox Herb uses "An herb with poison-countering effect." It needs to be consistent.

    Page 2, The World Thereafter
    - Not sure on the exact trigger. But after the 2nd time I watched Captain Rainbow on the TV, then attempted to turn on the TV again, the Blue Ladybug's dialogue is untranslated. もう らいしゅまで やらねえよ なに けしてだよ。 ったくよー。 This doesn't happen the first time, so the trigger may require progressing past a certain chapter or doing a Balloon Trip a subsequent time after the initially required Balloon Trip with the Spinning Herb from Page 7.

    Page 12, Chapter 3
    - Not sure if this is intentional or not due to Kakashi's occasional strange speech mannerisms. If you descend to B1F of the castle too early using the staircase, a guard will chastise you and tell you to leave. Kakashi will look at Tingle and say "Ha ha! You got mad!" However, Kakashi should really say "Ha ha! He got mad!"
    - If you show the King the Miracle Medicine, his dialogue gets cut off. He says "I don’t require the "
    - After doing a successful Love Push on the Princess, a cutscene with the Academic Advisor and Tingle's friends begins. Initially, Lion attempts to get the Advisor's attention. He says "Lady..." This is immediately followed by the Advisor's own voice blips, where it appears that even the Advisor is attempting to get her own attention. She says "Er, Lady..." This may be a mistranslation.

    - After you rescue Gramma and Grampa by giving them Miracle Medicine, but BEFORE showing them the Ominous Letter, showing either of them the Miracle Medicine again will result in untranslated text. - A cutscene automatically begins when you first meet Loveya here. Loveya will say "I'm looking forward to you business." It should be "your business."
    - During the Love Push with One-pup, if the steel heart hasn't been unlocked yet: Any gift will result in this response. "One-pup want's something different, I think." It should just be "wants" with no apostrophe. Also, because the text is so horizontally long, some text will get stuck on Tingle's head for the remainder of the Love Push session.
    - If you examine Jailer Girl before finishing her Love Push, it'll say "It's full." This doesn't make sense. It could mean that her glass is full, perhaps, but I'm not sure.

    Miscellaneous
    - Loveya sells a food item called Gunboat Dish. The description says "Fresh fish and seaweed serverd on a steel cruiser." "serverd" is a typo.
    - Loveya sells a tool item called Cool Dryer. The description says "People who don't like heat can use Only cool air comes out!" It needs to be fixed so it's more along the lines of "People who don’t like heat can use it. Only cool air comes out!"

  36. I figured out what the trigger is for the Captain Rainbow Blue Ladybug Japanese dialogue thing. If you SKIP the show, then attempting to turn on the TV again will result in Japanese. If you watch the whole show, then you won't get Japanese.

Specifically for waldrumpus's guide: One-pup actually likes the "Tool" category, so it should be an O instead of an X. Since the only category she hates is "Mature," this actually makes an interesting situation, where it's impossible to give her a gift that causes a negative response, for giving a gift of an appropriate level that's 2-3 X's. I'm very interested in the unobtainable dialogue.

Anyways, here's some more errors I encountered.

    - If you use the Wind-up Key on Sigma Jet, his dialogue cuts off early and his speech blips continue on, even when the text should have ended (if you're not skipping through text). He says "My wind-up key that I need "
    - While playing hide-and-seek with Yamori, he'll eventually disguise himself as the Mushroom Lady. After you sic him with One-pup, he'll say "That’s does it! You won't find me again!" The grammar needs to be fixed.
    - Not sure if this was intentional. After you deliver the Armageddonburi to Nimi, talk to the Pink Ladybug. During the conversation, Kakashi will chip in. "They liked the dish? Wonderful!" It sounded weird to me that Kakashi was asking a question since Kakashi was present when Nimi was given the Armageddonburi. So I went to the Japanese version of this scene, and in it Kakashi says おりょり すごく きにいってたよ。よかったねー! I don’t think this was implied to be a question, but I am not sure. Nothing major, but the dialogue felt strange to me.

    - When you give the Red Ladybug the Ladybug's Thing, the dialogue says "Handed over the Ladybug's Thing" A period is missing.

    Page 13, Chapter 3
    - If you read the first article of the Fish Lovers Magazine, it'll say "Here are the news from Vegetable Village." It should be "Here is the news from Vegetable Village."

    Page 13, Chapter 4
    - You need to knock over a shelf in order to knock out a guard. If you examine the knocked-over shelf, it says "Its contents is strewn across the floor." It should be "Its contents are strewn across the floor."
    - At the bridge, Kakashi will go into thinking mode. If you talk to Kakashi 7 times, his dialogue will get cut off. "If you could attach something "

  39. Page 13, Chapter 4
    - Lion's ghost says "Perk up, you 35 year old man." Since "35 year old" is being used as an adjective that precedes "man," it should be "Perk up, you 35-year-old man."

    Page 14
    - Love Push for Blue Lady: If you give her a neutral gift (for example worth 1 O and 1 X), the dialogue is too horizontally long, so a bit of text gets stuck on Tingle's head.
    - There is a cutscene where Wytch teleports away with the Princess. Buriki says, "If that woman gets her hands on pheromoans... She might gain enough magic power to overthrow the government of Emerald City." Lion follows up by saying, "We can't change that. Let's go after her." The wording here seems weird. It feels like it would make more sense if Lion were to say, "We can't allow that. Let's go after her." Or maybe, "We can't allow that to happen. Let's go after her." However, I'm not sure on the original dialogue so I can't make an accurate judgement.
    - During the finale of the game, Tingle must choose a girl to dance with before he returns home. He can examine each girl to get a description of what the girl is doing. But if he examines Lia, the game will say "I understand if you're not nervous at all." This doesn't describe what Lia is doing, so it doesn't make sense.

    Miscellaneous
    - After doing 30 secrets, which for me included finishing 2 of the Page 13 secrets, Spoiler Hermit brought out his red exclamation sign to get Tingle's attention. Spoiler Hermit has some untranslated dialogue. さて、 いつものワシにもどるとして・・・
    - This is like the minor-est most nitpicky thing ever. But I just wanted to mention that there are 2 carts in the game that use the word "Cartridge" while the rest use "Cart." "Cartridge OR" and "Cartridge SBL." It's not very important.

    - During Princess's 2nd and 3rd Heart Love Push: If you gift her the same item of an acceptable level twice, she'll say "Oh, you're giving me this again... The storehouse clark will be delighted." It should be "clerk"
    - After finishing the Princess's 2nd Heart Love Push, the Princess will request Tingle to go grab her a snack from the inn. She says, "Their deserts and beverages were always my favorite." It should be "desserts"
    - After finishing the Princess's 2nd and 3rd Heart Love Push, the Princess will give you an item called "Princess's Note." However, in pretty much every other instance of the game, the possessive for Princess was "Princess'." Either form is correct, but it might be best to rename both of these notes "Princess' Note" so it's consistent with the other uses of it throughout the game.
    - If you use the Green Earring on Sigma Jet, Sigma Jet will ask you if he can keep the earring. If you say no to the yes/no prompt, Sigma Jet will say, "He looks like he didn't like that answer." This doesn't make sense since Sigma Jet is saying this out loud to Tingle. It's not silent narration.

    Spoiler Hermit Quiz
    - Spoiler Hermit says, "Welcome to the spoiler quiz 'Final Zoom Zoom'" A period is missing.
    - If you attempt to exit the quiz, Spoiler Hermit will ask, "How about it? Care to try again?" You are given a yes/no prompt. If you say yes, you get kicked out of the quiz. If you say no, you continue the quiz. This is the opposite expected result for the Spoiler Hermit's quiz. Spoiler Hermit should really ask something more like, "Are you giving up?" Then the result makes sense.
    - When you complete the quiz, you get the same untranslated text at the end that you get for the 30-secrets landmark notification. さて、 いつものワシにもどるとして・・・

    - When Tingle and Kakashi are ready to leave, Auntie Fortune Teller explains to them that they need to follow the Yellow Brick Road to reach the City. Kakashi gets confused. Auntie Fortune Teller says, "Auntie, please explain again from the beginning." This is confusing since it sounds like a different character should be saying this line. This line should be more along the lines of, "I'll explain again from the beginning."

  42. I downloaded the text dump of the game. If you do end up fixing Lion's line "If only I had gotten to the seeds a little earlier..." then it might make more sense if it said "If only we/you had gotten to the seeds a little earlier..." since him saying "I" implies he's the only one who was attempting to get the seeds when it was really a group effort/Tingle's efforts.

    ------

I don't really know how to describe it. Most of the ending dialogue is fine. But when Auntie Fortune Teller is talking with Grampa, the dialogue felt weird to me.
    Problems:
    1. Auntie and Grampa are talking to each other. However, Grampa, without turning his head, starts directly speaking to Tingle. Not sure if this is intentional.
    2. Dialogue flow doesn't make sense. When I checked the text dump, it looks like perhaps there is a skipped line. Anyways, maybe check with the original Japanese script again.

    In-Game
Auntie: This man has collapsed... Isn't there something wrong with this place?
Grampa: Oh, yes. You arrived when she said you would. You were unconscious.
King: I see. Wytch used these magic circles, to summon Tingle from another world.

    Text Dump
    This man has collapsed...<2>
    Isn't there something wrong<0>with this place?<2>
This must be it.<2><1>The place where Tingle<0>entered this world.<2>
    Oh, yes.<2><1>You arrived when she said<0>you would.<2><1>You were unconscious.<2>
    I see.<2><1>Wytch used these<0>magic circles,<2><1>to summon Tingle from<0>another world.<2>

The best thing to do would be to re-check the original Japanese script. But I don't want to beat the game again to be able to check it. But this is an example of what I think would be more understandable text flow.

Auntie: This man collapsed here... This must be it. The place where Tingle entered this world.
Grampa: Oh, yes. Tingle arrived here when she said he would. He was unconscious.
King: I see. Wytch used these magic circles, to summon Tingle from another world.

  54. From what I played, the translation is lovely, all of you did a great job on it. Congratulations!

I'd like to point a few problems, though. Like Kevin P says, there's a small "can/can't" typo in page 05. There's also a small issue in pages 06/07 where "Energy Eel" doesn't appear on the script text (while talking with other characters, nothing related to menus), leaving blank space where it should be in several of the NPC sentences.

I haven't noticed anything else yet, and these are very minor things, so they don't matter much, but I wanted to point them out anyway.

Again, thanks for all the work you did with this, it's disappointing this game never made it outside Japan.
